Call for Submissions – Virginia English Journal: Summer 2025

Vol. 73, Issue 2: Growth Mindset – What Failure Can Teach Us About Success

“The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Teaching isn’t about perfection—it’s about persistence. Every lesson, every misstep, and every do-over brings us closer to growth. In this issue, we’re embracing the power of a growth mindset, and we want to hear from you.

Have you ever had a lesson flop, only to come back stronger the next time? Do your students teach you something new every time they fail and try again? Have your biggest teaching “failures” shaped your most powerful moments?

Tell us about the wrong turns that led to breakthroughs. Share the strategies, stories, and reflections that have helped you, your students, and your classroom community rise.

We’re currently accepting:

  • Feature Articles (3,000–5,000 words)
  • Great Teaching Ideas (1,000–2,000 words)
  • Budding Scholars (2,000–4,000 words)
  • Book Reviews (1,200–1,400 words)
  • Poetry (plus classroom context, if applicable)

📅 Submission Deadline: May 28, 2025
📍 Submit online at: https://digitalcommons.bridgewater.edu/vej/

Let your reflections shine—and help other educators grow along the way.
