Sarah Tanner AndersonSarah Tanner-Anderson currently serves as President of Virginia Association of Teachers of English.  Her involvement with VATE began as an undergraduate at Longwood University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 2002.  After earning a Master of Arts degree English, Education, and Writing in 2007, also from Longwood University, Sarah was elected to her first executive board position as Middle School Member-at-Large.  From there, she was elected to a four-year presidential term, beginning as Vice President in 2009.  As President-Elect in 2010, Sarah served as the conference coordinator and program chair for the 2010 “Keepers of the Light: Illuminating Twenty-first Century Literacies in the English Classroom” in Virginia Beach.  As President in 2011, Sarah’s goal is to better serve the VATE membership through a number of exciting initiatives.  

Sarah teaches eighth-grade English and serves as the English department chair at Buckingham County Middle School.  Currently, she is pursuing a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration and Policy Studies and a Post-Master’s Administrative Certificate from The George Washington University.
